Club Fencing
It is recommended that beginners who wish to join VTMFC and fence Epee begin by taking an introductory fencing course -- unless already experienced. Before beginners commence electric epee fencing, they are given instruction by Maitre Bac and by senior students. While there are a number of members of VTMFC fencers of a young age, smaller children may have difficulty as they may find the epee too heavy to wield with proper form.
Fencing Equipment
The club provides an epe or foil for "dry" fencing instruction. Once ready to fence club members must provide their own equipment. Equipment may be purchased through the club or privately through a number of suppliers. Maitre Bac and club members can offer useful advise on equipment, footwear, and tips on equipment maintenance. The club also has a designated armourer who can repair or services equipment.
Theatrical & Artistic Fencing
For stage actors/actresses and interested individuals. According to the student's needs, fencing moves will be choreographed and their execution taught and perfected. If possible, it is recommended that students come in pairs for joint practice.
Theatrical Fencers purchase their own training manual ($35), Theatrical weapons or a sabre. No protective equipment is required. Running shoes and sweats or track pants must be worn. Class times vary throughout the year.
Also private lessons can be conducted in any weapon(s) of the student's choice. Meeting times and terms of remuneration are negotiable. Contact Bac H. Tau, MaƮtre Bac at Tel/Fax number (604) 732-4875 to make the necessary arrangements.
(N.B. It is advisable for students to supplement their private lessons with a fencing club membership in order to fence with a variety of opponents for the enhancement of fencing experience.)
